Elaine Clara DeWitt

Elaine Clara DeWitt, 92, formerly of 901 So. 36th St., Quincy, died Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 6:25 am in Good Samaritan Home.

She was born February 26, 1914 in Quincy, Illiois, the daughter of Henry and Anna Ahrens Klattenhoff. On November 27, 1935 she married Howard T. DeWitt in St. James Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1972.

Mrs. DeWitt attended St. James Lutheran Grade School and was a 1932 graduate of Quincy High school. She had worked as a sales associate for J. C. Penney Co. in Quincy from 1956 to 1976. Elaine was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML).

Survivors include 3 daughters, Sharon Randall and her husband Russ, LaCanada- Flintridge, CA; Sally Moore and her husband Ross, Quincy; Diana Kemner, Quincy; a son, Darrell DeWitt, Apache Junction, AZ; 5 grandchildren, Todd Moore and his wife Michelle, Quincy; Kevin Moore and his wife Stephanie, Bloomington, IL; Darrin DeWitt and his wife Janice, Queen Creek, AZ; Brandon DeWitt, Seattle, WA; Kristin Kemner Massingill and her husband Wes, Clayton, IL ; great grandchildren, Austin and Alexandria Moore; Kelsi and Kaetlyn Kemner Massingill; Derik, Kylie and Delaney DeWitt, and nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Gladys Pfaffe Bohannon and Marie Bockenfeld and a son-in-law Anthony "Tony" Kemner and a niece, Shirley Pfaffe Voorhis.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made to St. James Lutheran Church or St. James Lutheran School in her name would be appreciated.
