Donald J. Braun

Donald J. Braun, age 83, of Quincy died Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 10:50 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.

He was born May 24, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Charles Fredrick and Evelyn Smith Braun. On November 1, 1947 he married Helen Clayburn in Chicago, Illinois. She survives.

Mr. Braun was born and raised in the Chicago area. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and received a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge. He operated his own parking garage and full service gas station on Irving Park Road near Wrigley Field. He farmed a 160 acre farm in Sheboygan County, WI. Later he was employed by the consulting firm Alexander Proudfoot where he conducted time studies to improve productivity and efficiency of industrial workers. Mr. Braun then entered the manufacturing field, working for various businesses utilizing his time study expertise. After his retirement he and his wife spent several years traveling.

Survivors include, 2 children, Gail Hermann and her husband Kim of Quincy, David Braun and his wife Linda of Des Plaines, IL, 4 grandchildren Matthew Hermann and his wife Shannon of St. Louis, MO; Catherine Hermann of Chicago, IL; Stephanie and Michelle Braun of Des Plaines; 1 great grandchild, Charles Richard Hermann of St. Louis, MO: a brother Harold Braun of Thousand Oaks, CA; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert.

Services will be Saturday, October 7, 2006, at 3 p.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with visitation on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials made to Sunset Home or the charity of the donor's choice in his name would be appreciated
