Leroy Davis, Sr., age 80 of 2130
Harrison St., formerly of 913 Oak, died Friday, October 13, 2006 at 4:05 a. m. in Good
Samaritan Home.
He was born April 15, 1926 in Taylor, Missouri the son of Oliver
and Elizabeth "Bessie" Hoke Davis. On October 25, 1947 he married Marion C.
Bryant in Taylor, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2006
Mr. Davis served 2 years in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946
during World War II. He farmed for Noel Smith in Taylor, MO and in the Palmyra bottoms for
several years. He then worked as a machinist for 22 years for ABC and E. L. Smith and
Sons. Mr. Davis then was a carpenter for Ruffcorn Construction and also worked as an
independent contractor until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and
playing cards.
Survivors include five sons: Leroy Davis, Jr. and his wife,
Alice; Michael Roy Davis; Larry Andrew Davis and his wife, Brenda; Gerald Lee Davis; Roger
Kenneth Davis and his wife, Laura, all of of Quincy; 15 grandchildren;11
great-grandchildren; two sisters Martha Burgtorf and Wanda Bradfield, both of Quincy; and
a brother Donald Davis and his wife Nancy of Durham, MO; 2 sisters-in-law, Rita Davis and
Billie Jean Brocksieck. He was preceded in death by his wife, a granddaughter Gabriel
Davis in infancy, his parents, 2 brothers Kenneth and Oliver "Pearl" Davis and 3
sisters Lily Spratt, Violet Foltz and Neva Bradfield and a brother and sister in infancy.
Services will be Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in
Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Chaplain Steve Disseler officiating. Visitation will be
Tuesday, October 17, 10 - 11 a.m.. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made
to Harmony Meadows at Good Samaritan Home or the charity of the donor's choice in his name
would be appreciated.
