Charles R. "Charlie" Griffith, 3425 Chestnut, Quincy, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 at 3:00 am in his home.He was born July 6, 1925 in Louisiana, Missouri, the son of Elza and Mary Edna Edwards Griffith. On April 29, 1958, he married Jeanne Menne in Pittsfield, IL. She survives.He was a 1943 graduate of Louisiana High School, and after WW II attended Michigan State University and the University of Southern California. He served in the US Navy during WW II in the South Pacific, South China Sea and the Philippines.Charlie was in broadcasting for 45 years beginning with WTAD. In 1953 he was employed as a broadcaster for WGEM where he served in the News Department. Later he served as the Director of News and Public Affairs. He retired in 1995.He was a member of the V.F.W., the Elks Club, North Side Boat Club, and the Tri-State Civil War Roundtable. he was a volunteer and mentor at Ellington School.Survivors in addition to his wife are his daughter, Mary Kathleen Griffith, Quincy; his son, Charles Dooley Griffith, Dallas, TX; and a sister, Lucille Meyer, Quincy, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother-in-law, Robert L. Meyer.Family and friends will meet Wednesday morning, Nov. 29, 2006 at 10:30 am at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home for a funeral procession to Calvary Cemetery where an 11:00 am Graveside Service will be conducted. American Legion Post #37 will conduct Military Rites at the cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4pm - 7:00 pm at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, Salvation Army Hometown Endowment or Blessing Foundation for Hospice. |
