Virginia C. Jones, age 76 of
Plainfield, IL, and formerly of 602 Harrison, Quincy peacefully passed away at 10:00 pm in
the home of her daughter at 2106 Beldon Ct. Plainfield, IL on Tuesday, May 2, 2006.
She was born April 8, 1930 in Monticello, Missouri the daughter
of Virgil and Pearl Georgia Majors Clay. She had been married to Lawrence Jones and to
that marriage was born 7 children.
She was employed by Davis Cleaver Poultry and then she was a
C.N.A. at Sunset Home. She was a member of Salvation Army where she was also a member of
the Women's Club. Virginia donated to many charities and supported a child in Africa.
Survivors include six children, Lonnie Jones and his wife
Sheila, Quincy; Melody Irwin, Plainfield, IL; Joseph Jones and his wife Jane, San Leandro,
CA; Louis Jones, Quincy; Hilary Robinson, Romeoville, IL; Trina Jones, Plainfield, IL; 5
step children, Lawrence "Larry" Jones, San Jose, CA; Laurice Wofford, St. Louis,
MO; Maries Hale and her husband LeRoy, Bay Minette, AL; June Alice Hickman, Oakland, CA;
Carmen Spencer, Oakland, CA; 6 brothers and sisters, Bernard Clay, Brandon, MS; Ronnie
Clay, Milwaukee, WI; Gertrude Mallory, Quincy; Norma Jean Tasco and her husband Hartley,
LaGrange, MO; Muzzella Dade, Canton, MO; Darlene Sprague and her husband, William,
Hopkinsville, KY; 37 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; 41 great grandchidlren; 30 step
great grandchildren, and 9 step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
her father, Virgil Clay, mother; Pearl Clay Jones; a daughter, Lisa Jones; 6 brothers,
Harold, Donald Lee, Everett, Bramble, Rex and Joe Clay, and a sister, Sylvia Steele.
Services will be Monday, May 8, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in
Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Major Alan Wurtz and Rev. James A. Hailey, III
officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from
4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials made to the Salvation Army or the Joliet Area
Community Hospice in Virginia's name would be greatly appreciated.
