Walter Gerhard Dege, 82, 1622
Mickey Meadows, Quincy died Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 8:44 pm in Blessing Hospital.
He was born May 21, 1923 in Pollnow, Germany, the son of Ernst
and Martha Pirk Dege. On May 15, 1948, he married Helga M. Haehn in Magdeburg, Germany.
She survives.
Mr. Dege served in the German Army during WWII as a paratrooper
and was wounded three times. He came to the U.S. in 1952 and became a citizen December
1958. He was a cabinet maker at Huck Fixtures for 36 years and retired in 1988. He was
known in town as a master furniture maker. Mr. Dege was a member of Trinity United Church
of Christ, the Fireside Club, and was Chairman of the Property and Grounds Committee for
3-4 years. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America
for over 50 years and was Past Counselor of United Commercial Travelers.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a brother Kurt Dege of
Magdeburg, Germany; 2 sisters, Elsbeth Hartmann of Blankenburg, Germany and Eva Kuestner
of Magdeburg, Germany; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,
his daughter Evelin Townshend, a brother Rudolph Dege and 2 sisters Liselotte Rosam and
Margarethe "Gretchen" Duske.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday morning at 11 am at the
Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Timothy A. White officiating. Visitation will be
Tuesday from 5 until 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Memorial contributions made to Trinity United Church of Christ in Walter's name would be
greatly appreciated.
