Harold W. Powers, Jr., age 80, of
1325 S. 24th, Quincy, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 5:10 pm in Blessing Hospital.
He was born August 4, 1925 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Harold
W. and Margaret Rogers Powers, Sr. On September 9, 1950 he married Arlene Bangert in
Quincy. She survives.
Harold was a graduate of Quincy High School and Quincy College.
He served in the US Navy during WWII, and worked for the Railway Mail in Chicago before
his marriage. He was employed over 40 years at Gardner Denver as Supervisor of Machine
Order. Harold was a member of the Church of St. Peter, and the Gem Dandy Square Dance
Club. He loved to do things with his grandchildren and was known for his holiday yard
decorations.
Survivors also include his son, Randall Lee "Randy"
Powers and his wife Penny, Quincy; his daughter, Sandra Kay "Sandy" Patterson
and her husband Rick, Quincy; 5 grandchildren, Ryan Powers and his wife Laura, Quincy;
Kellie Evans and her husband Eric, Caseyville, IL; Adam Patterson, St. Louis, MO; Brian
Patterson, Quincy; Tamara Griffin, Bloomfield, IL; 2 great grandchildren, Cameron and Kai
Griffin; a sister, Sister Mary Hiltrudis, Sisters of the Most Precious Blood, O'Fallon,
MO; 2 brothers, Wayne Powers and his wife Shirley, and Dr. Francis Powers and his wife
Jean, all of Quincy, and a sister -in-law, Joanne Powers, Chicago. He was preceded in
death by his parents, and his brother Howard Powers.
Services will be Friday at 2pm in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with
officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial
will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church of St. Peter, Lutheran
Church of St. John or Camp Callahan.
