Carl Richard 'Dick' Smith, age 71 of 2024 Spring , Quincy, died Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 4:02 P.M. in Blessing Hospital.

He was born October 24, 1934 in Hannibal, MO the son of Carl William and Harriet V. Dedrick Smith. On April 7, 1984 he married Mary A. Behrens Aschemann in Quincy. She survives.

Mr. Smith was a 1952 graduate of Quincy High School. After graduation he worked for several plumbing companies, including Ernst Plumbing and Heating and Gold Plumbing and Heating. After mastering his trade he opened his own business, D-S Plumbing and Heating in 1972. He retired in 2000 after 28 years. Mr. Smith was a member of Bodley Lodge #1, A.F.& A.M., Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple, and High Twelve. He joined the Quincy Skeeter Patrol in 1972 and was captain for 20 years. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include 6 children Dr. David (Fran) Smith of Sommerville, SC; Jeffrey (Diane) Smith of Osage Beach, MO; Gary (Lesa) Smith of Quincy; Teresa Smith of Quincy; Kimberly (Travis) Higgins of Virginia, IL; Christie (Floyd) Smith of Quincy; 5 stepchildren Jane (Dr. Timothy) Jacobs of Quincy; John (Niki) Aschemann of Quincy; Joan (Randy) Hynek of Barry; Jeff (Linda) Aschemann of Coatsburg: Jim (Jeanne) Aschemann of Quincy; 11 grandchildren; 17 step grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, a sister, Ann Bisser of Quincy and an aunt Dorothy Ruppel of Quincy, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson, and a brother-in-law, Harris Bisser.

Services will be Wednesday, at 10 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Timothy White officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
