Robert A. 'Bob' Huelsmeyer, age 78,
of the Illinois Veterans Home and formerly of 1633 State died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at
6:48 pm in Blessing Hospital.
He was born October 13, 1927 in Quincy, Illinois the son of
Alvin and Florence Burgdorff Huelsmeyer. In 1951 he married Mary Lou Morton in Trinity
United Church of Christ in Quincy.
Bob graduated in 1945 from Quincy High School and attended
Quincy College. He joined the US Navy on July 25, 1945 in Great Lakes, IL and was then
stationed at Pensacola, Florida until July of 1946. He was employed by Gardner Denver in
1947 for 43 years starting in tabulating, then sales, and finally, Manager of Systems and
Programming. Bob retired in 1991. Bob loved his work and enjoyed making friends. While
there he was on the Credit Union Board; played golf and bowled on the Gardner Denver Golf
and Bowling Leagues.
He loved his grandchildren and played baseball and many other
games in the yard with them. He also followed their high school soccer games. He was an
avid Blue Devil basketball fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan Heitholt and her husband
Chuck of Carmel, IN; Vicki Ridder of Quincy; grandchildren, Lynsey E. Heitholt Romine and
her husband Grant of Bettendorf , IA; Emily A. Heitholt of Carmel, IN; Michael Heitholt of
Carmel, IN; John A. Ridder, Jr., Katie E. Ridder, and Robert A. Ridder, all of Quincy;
brother, Don Huelsmeyer and his wife Margaret of Quincy; 2 nieces and one nephew, Lisa
Hummert and her husband, Mike, Linda Paul, and Mark Huelsmeyer, and his wife Martha, all
of Quincy; aunts and uncles include: Millie Vogel, Lea Butcher of California, and Glenn
Burgdorff and his wife, Marilyn of Camp Point; numerous cousins include: Kenneth Laaker
and his wife, Anita of Quincy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Gary.
Services will be Friday, March 3, 2006 at 11:00 am in
Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Timothy A. White officiating. Burial will be in
Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ or the Illinois Veterans Home
Alzheimer's Unit.
