12th, Quincy, formerly of 1012 South 15th died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at 12:30 pm in the
Illinois Veterans Home. She was born February 7, 1918 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Cora Sturhahn Hoener. On November 18, 1945, she married Alvin Klatt in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1988. She was a graduate of Quincy High School in 1936 and the Blessing College of Nursing. She did post graduate work at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and in Milwaukee. She served as an army nurse during WWII in Iceland and England. She was employed as an RN at Blessing Hospital and Gardner Denver Company, and she finished her career as a visiting nurse retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of St. John, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and had served on the altar guild. She was an active volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Mobile. She was a member of the Gardner Denver Credit Union. Survivors include twin daughters, Lavonne Klatt, Quincy and Lewella "Ella" Sergeant, Peoria, IL. She also was preceded in death by 3 brothers Robert, Edward and Willard Hoener and one sister Helen Hoener. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Monday, May 14, at the Lutheran Church of St. John, Rev. Harold Bender officiating. Friends are invited to the services. Burial in Quincy National Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or the Lutheran Church of St. John . Hansen-Spear Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by American Legion Post #37. |
