Mayme Powell Peters, age 100, of 639 York Street, died Sunday, November 18, 2012, at 9:25 am in her home.
Mayme was born September 23, 1912 in Stillwell, Illinois, the daughter of John Wesley and Ethel Mary Owrey Powell. She married Herman “Harvey” Theodore Peters on November 1, 1933 in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1972.
Mayme was a seamstress at Carson Pirie Scott for 5 1/2 years and a salesperson at Deters Dairy for 15 years. She was a former member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church and had attended the Lutheran Church of St. John.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Peters of Alexandria, MO, and Gerald (Lillian) Peters of Quincy; three daughters, Shirley (Dennis) Sheridan of Ewing, MO, Karen Goings of Trenton, IL, and Susan (Barry) Juaire of St. Paul, MN; a sister, Ada (James) Bowen of Quincy, IL; 13 Grandchildren, Vick Peters of Mexico, MO, Brad (Sara) Peters of Bloomington, IL, Nikole “Nikki” (Darin) Willer-McCleary of Liberty, IL, Ric (Barb) Sheridan of Ewing, MO, Wesley (Wanda) Goings of Trenton, IL, Paul Juaire, Scott Juaire and Dawn (Jason) Given, all of St. Paul, MN, Virgil (Linda) Peters, Valarie (John) Schonarth, Donald (Tonya) Peters, and Gregory (fiance Kathy Dopheide) Peters, all of Quincy; 19 Great Grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, and a great-great-great granddaughter, two sisters-in-law Virginia and Louise Powell, both of Quincy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mayme was preceded in death by her parents, a step-father, William Ward, an infant son, Donald Peters, three grandsons, Kent Sheridan, Fred Willer Jr. and Timothy Peters, six brothers, Alfred, Charles “Chalky”, David Earl, Melvin, Edward “Dutch”, and Robert “Bob” Powell, two sisters, Una Henning and Eva Rudisill, a son-in-law Charles ‘Corkey’ Goings and two daughters-in-law Joan Peters and Donna (Peters) Lange.
