Everett “Red” Allen, age 77, of 919 S. 18th St., went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 5, 2012, at 8:08 pm in Blessing Hospital.
Everett was born April 30, 1934 in Fishhook, Illinois, the son of Grover and Theila Taylor Allen. On September 17, 1955 he married Shirley Ann Stewart in Quincy. She survives.
“Red” was a graduate of Quincy High School. He worked for Knapheide Manufacturing for 30 years in the maintenance department and was a bus driver for Quincy Public Schools for more than 20 years. He loved working with the kids. He was a 53 year member of Bible Baptist Church, he loved the church and was very active as Deacon, Past Treasurer and enjoyed with helping in the maintenance of the church properties. “PoPo” could always be counted on, by family and friends alike, day and night to come help where he was needed. He liked yard work, was good with his hands and enjoyed fixing things. He loved baseball especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Quincy Gems.
Survivors in addition to his wife include: a daughter, Brenda (Dan) Peters of Kinderhook, IL, and a son, Ivan Allen of Quincy; 4 grandchildren, Jason (Jessica) Robertson of Mt Sterling, IL, Karie Robertson of Quincy, Brandy (James) Cottrell of Quincy and Andrew (Janae) Robertson of Palmyra, MO; 6 great-grandchildren, Dalton and Camden Robertson of Mt Sterling, IL, Amber Johnson, Carley and Bailey Lovelace and Kenady Robertson all of Palmyra, MO; 2 sisters, Ruth Bentrop and Mary Bullock both of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a twin sister, Evelyn Schwartz
Services: 10:00 am Thursday, February 9, 2012, in Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Robbins officiating.
Burial: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

Red was always smiling and usually had a funny story to tell that would get everyone around grinning. We will miss his happy attitude. What a faithful man to drive school buses for so many years! And attend the same church so long. He truly was a good guy. We will miss this man and pray for you Shirley and Brenda and family.
